Thank you for stopping by our Kindergarten website! We have such an awesome Kindergarten team at Iron Springs! I am lucky to be one of four great women teaching Kindergarten at our school.
My name is Kenzie Smith. I was born in Cedar City where I started school at North Elementary. Two weeks into my 1st grade year, my dad's job caused us to pack up and move to beautiful Vancouver, British Columbia. We lived just up the street from the ocean! It was very different from southern Utah. We would spend many days playing in the water and exploring in the woods. It was beautiful and fun, but we missed home. We lived in B.C. for 4 years but decided we needed to be closer to our family. We moved back just in time for me to enter 5th grade at North Elementary. In a way it was like I had never left. My best friend was still there waiting for me. To this day we are still friends!
I met my husband Kody, while attending Cedar High. We got married a few years after graduation while we were both attending SUU. We have four beautiful children. McKoy(11), Mataya(7), Maverick(4), and Brixton(1). I love being a mom! Our world revolves around our kids and they keep us very busy.
I did my student teaching at North Elementary in 2nd and 4th grade. I knew I would be happy to teach any grade level, but my heart was really with the younger kids. I was hired to teach first grade at a new school just being built, called Iron Springs Elementary. I was thrilled to be at a new school teaching first grade. The first year was a little rough because the school wasn't quite finished. We didn't have a gym, a lunchroom, or a playground. We did our best and had fun eating lunch with our kids everyday in our classrooms.
After teaching first grade for 5 years I decided to give Kindergarten a try. It was always my dream to teach Kindergarten, so when the opportunity came, I made the switch. During my first year in Kindergarten I became pregnant with what I thought was, my last child. I wanted to spend as much time with him as I could, so I decided to teach half day Kindergarten. I taught half day for two years and am back teaching full time. Last year, life threw us a curve ball and we decided to adopt a son. Brixton was added to our family and has been so much fun! I love my family and love my job! I am so excited to begin my thirteenth year teaching at Iron Springs!
I love Cedar City and I love teaching in my home town. My whole family lives in Southern Utah. My sister teaches 2nd grade at Three Peaks Elementary. My aunt teaches 3rd grade at East Elementary and my sister in-law teaches 4th grade at Iron Springs. I love the support I get from these ladies as we do our best to teach the children in this community.
That is a little about me. I have the best job in the world! I hope you will always feel welcome in my room. Teaching is a partnership between the parents and the teacher. I really believe that and hope to make this year the best yet!
